What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of naturally extracted aromatic substances from plants to balance and promote the health of mind, body, and spirit.  It is a natural and simple way to enhance your overall health and wellbeing. 

It can be used in conjunction with other complementary treatments such as massage and acupuncture, as well as standard treatments for symptom management. 

How does it work?

Essential oils can be inhaled or applied topically to the skin.

If applied to the skin, the active chemical components of the oils are absorbed through our skin and into our body. When inhaled, the chemical components of the plant, essential oil, or tea that we smell bind directly to receptors in our olfactory organs and brain.

The limbic system, the part of our brain that controls emotions, heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress, and hormone balance, is directly effected by these chemical components.

What we smell has a profound physiological and psychological effect on us.
